A peer-reviewed, open-access journal built by and for the cardiovascular community — zero-cost publishing, AI-assisted workflows, and meaningful incentives for peer reviewers.
Our Model
OpenSource: Cardiology combines zero-cost publishing, AI-assisted editorial workflows, and a novel reviewer co-authorship model — funded sustainably through industry partnerships and philanthropy, never through author fees.
Zero author publication fees for original research. A lean model funded through modest open access fees for non-original research, industry partnerships, and philanthropy — never from the researchers who publish here.
AI-assisted submission, formatting, copyediting, reviewer matching, and pre-review — cutting turnaround from months to weeks.
A credits-based system rewarding high-quality, timely peer review. Use credits for no-cost open-access editorials or co-authorship on manuscripts you review.
AI detection of fabricated data, figures, and references. Strict peer review. Rigorous statistical appraisal as a core editorial standard.
Journal Scope
OpenSource: Cardiology publishes original research, critical appraisals, reviews, and editorials across all domains of clinical and translational cardiovascular disease — with a commitment to rigorous methodology and open, reproducible science.
Reviewer Incentives
Rigorous peer review in cardiology should translate into meaningful academic recognition. OpenSource: Cardiology offers a multi-tiered incentive program built for career advancement — including a published, PubMed-indexed editorial, formal editorial board appointments, and recognition for top reviewers.
Every active reviewer is added to the journal's editorial board. All future reviewer invitations are drawn from this curated network — a formal academic appointment for your CV.
After completing 15 five-star reviews, reviewers can elect to be promoted to an Associate Editor — a formal academic appointment recognized in promotion files and credentialing.
The journal publishes an annual list of top reviewers, with formal certificates of distinction suitable for academic promotion packets and CVs.
Every completed review is automatically logged to your Publons and ORCID records — verified peer-review history that appears in your academic profile and promotion file.
Earn credits for each high-quality, timely peer review. Accumulated credits qualify you for authorship on a published, PubMed-indexed editorial in OpenSource: Cardiology. The diagram below shows how credits accumulate and what they unlock.
How It Works
Our platform streamlines every step of the publishing journey — from first submission to final proof — with intelligent automation that removes friction without sacrificing scientific rigor.
Associate Editors with subspecialty cardiology expertise handle editorial decisions, supported by AI tools for reviewer matching, pre-review generation, and manuscript integrity checking.
Indexing & Archiving
Full indexing and archiving expected through PubMed, DOI, CLOCKSS, and other major repositories — ensuring long-term discoverability and preservation.
Auto-extracts title, authors, institutions, and metadata from uploaded manuscripts. Simplified cover letters. Fast and frictionless.
Automated detection of fabricated language and figures. AI-generated pre-review summaries to guide expert cardiology reviewers.
Reviewers are drawn from a curated editorial board of clinical cardiologists — selected for domain expertise and commitment to rigorous science.
When accepted, AI handles final formatting and copyediting before returning proofs to corresponding authors. We will never ask for laborious copy editing from authors to fit the journal format.
